What is a Closing Ceremony?

The period after childbirth can be a time of profound physical and emotional change. Traditionally, cultures around the world recognize this as a time of increased vulnerability for the mother. The Closing Ceremony is a ritual designed to support the mother's healing journey on all levels – physical, emotional, and spiritual. During pregnancy, your hips become wider and wider in order to carry your child and your hips and your hips are known for carrying or storing your emotions. This is can be your time to process your birthing journey, release some stored traumas, closing the chapter to that pregnancy typically done during the 40 days of postpartum although it is beneficial for a closing to be done even years after child birth, loss, or hysterectomy.

Benefits of a Closing Ceremony:

  • Physical Healing: The ceremony can help to restore physical balance and promote healing after the physical demands of childbirth. The Closing Ceremony can help realign your hips

  • Emotional Release: It provides a safe and sacred space to process emotions that may come up for you such as joy, grief, and any unresolved feelings related to the birth experience.

  • Spiritual Renewal: The ceremony can help to reconnect the mother to her inner strength and restore a sense of wholeness.

  • Symbolic Closure:

The act of closing the bones represents a symbolic closure of the birthing process and a transition into motherhood.

If considering 3 Part Ceremony, we will begin with a Haitian Postpartum Healing Bath, also known as a Bain Fey. This traditional herbal bath uses sacred herb to loosen tense or tight muscles after birth or loss, help the body retain heat during healing, improve circulation, and support womb care and emotional restoration.

Your bath will be followed by a 15-minute Yoni Steam to gently warm and open the womb space. Yoni steaming helps regulate your moon cycle, supports uterine detoxification, encourages healthy circulation, and helps release stagnant energy held in the pelvis and womb. During your steam I use herbal medicine such a tea blend and plant medicine to move stagnant energies and what no longer serves you. We will speak life over your womb and your body.

After these preparations, we will move into your womb massage and begin your Closing of the Bones Ceremony.

What to Expect:

  • Sharing Your Story: The ceremony begins with space being held for the opportunity to share your birth story. This can include any thoughts, feelings, or experiences you'd like to process.

  • Yoni Steam or Traditional Haitian Postpartum Bath : Prior to your closing, we recommend a yoni steam or a Traditional Haitian Postpartum Bath called a "Bain Fey" to cleanse and nourish your body and spirit. The Bain Fey will be prepared with herbs specifically chosen to support postpartum healing and relaxation. - *This can also be done on a different day if you choose

  • Chakra Balancing: You will lie down on seven pieces of cloth, representing the seven chakras. Each chakra point will be honored and gently wrapped, starting from the head and moving towards the feet using a sound therapy with a Tibetan or Crystal Sound Bowl for sound therapy.

  • Family Involvement: Your spouse, partner, or children can join you during this part of the ceremony if desired.

  • Unwrapping and Integration: After being wrapped for a period of time (as long as you wish) You will be gently unwrapped from toe to head, allowing you to integrate the experience and feel renewed.
